Hurricane Melissa: Facts, FAQs, and how to help

Hurricane Melissa, made landfall in Jamaica on October 27, 2025, as a Category 5 storm, threatening millions across the Caribbean. Communities in the Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Jamaica now face catastrophic flooding, landslides, and food insecurity. World Vision teams are on the ground in Haiti, helping preparing families for impact. In Jamaica, World Vision is organizing hurricane disaster relief efforts through our U.S. partnerships. Teaching where she once learned

Former sponsored child Phanet, 19, now teaches fifth grade in the same rural Cambodian classroom where she once studied. With support from World Vision’s sponsorship program, her family’s farm grew into a thriving business, and Phanet overcame challenges to pursue her education. Today, she is determined to pass on the gift of learning to the next generation, while continuing to dream herself.
