When disasters strike, the right goods at the right time can change everything.

A product donation, also known as a gift-in-kind (GIK), is a contribution of physical goods — anything from hygiene kits to apparel, medical supplies to educational materials, shelf-stable food, and more. For businesses, these GIK donations can include excess or returned merchandise, repackaged inventory, discontinued stock keeping units (SKUs), or imported goods disrupted by tariffs.

Each month, World Vision receives and processes over 300 full truckloads of donated goods —well over 100,000 pallets each year. With every shipment, we provide the scale and infrastructure companies rely on — and the stewardship and accountability vulnerable communities deserve.

In the U.S., our work is anchored by a network of over 3,000 trusted churches, schools, and nonprofit partners; many of which have deep, long-lasting ties in their communities. These partners help us identify needs, deliver donations with dignity, and ensure donations support — not disrupt — local efforts.

The role of product donations in crisis and recovery
From the first days of a disaster to the long road of rebuilding, product donations help meet urgent needs and restore stability for families.

In emergencies, pre-positioned goods are often the fastest way to respond and meet the needs of a crisis, and we have strategically located stocked warehouses around the globe. When disasters hit in the U.S. or around the world, World Vision is able to respond within 24 to 72 hours with essential goods like hygiene kits, emergency food, and essential household items. In the weeks that follow, as families rebuild their lives, donated school supplies, clothing, toys, and building materials can help restore a sense of normalcy.

Beyond immediate disaster relief, product donations help families meet needs without financial strain. When essential needs are met and families begin to rebuild their lives, donated products like building supplies enable families to use their resources toward things like education or healthcare.

Stewardship you can see through tracking — from loading dock to local distribution
Every donated item that enters World Vision’s network is registered, logged, and tracked. We steward every donation with full transparency and traceability. Our logistics and warehouse management system allows us to carefully monitor:

  • Intake: Register products, barcode (when needed), and log, with full documentation for taxes, compliance, and tracking.
  • Vetting: Match each item with high-priority programs or vetted partners. Nothing moves until its use aligns with our ethical and strategic standards.
  • Storage & logistics: Goods are stored in secure facilities and tracked by pallet, including racking location and distribution date. Shipments are dispatched via controlled systems.
  • Deployment: Partners confirm receipt, often with photographic or GPS-verified delivery. This end-to-end system ensures transparency, reduces loss, and protects donor trust.

World Vision’s superior logistics provides donors with transparency, protects against misuse, and enables rapid response in a rare case of a product recall, all while maintaining a greater than 99.5% accuracy rate.

Recall-ready and risk-aware
If a donated product is recalled due to a safety or quality concerns, World Vision acts fast. Our logistics team works with the donor to identify and locate affected inventory, notify partners, and either retrieve or destroy items based on donor and regulatory guidance.

Our recall preparedness safeguards communities — and protects your brand from reputational and regulatory risk.

Brand protection and legal peace of mind
World Vision understands what’s at stake when your brand is associated with a donated item. That’s why every GIK is governed by a legal agreement that includes donor indemnification — protecting your company from liability once goods leave your care.

Under this agreement:

  • You are not legally liable if a product is later implicated in a claim or issue.
  • World Vision assumes full responsibility for how donated goods are handled, stored, distributed, and used.

These protections shield your company from potential lawsuits, reputational harm, or regulatory complications, and they are designed to align with compliance and risk mitigation.

When you give through World Vision, you’re not just handing off inventory. You’re partnering with an organization that values integrity, stewardship, and long-term trust — just like you.

Zero tolerance for resale
World Vision maintains a strict “do not sell” policy for all donated goods. We prohibit resale, barter, or unauthorized distribution — with a zero-tolerance standard communicated clearly to all implementing partners.

To enforce this, we conduct:

  • Mandatory partner orientations on donation use and brand protection
  • Monthly reporting with examples of how goods are used
  • Regular site visits to ensure compliance

By upholding these standards, we protect your brand and honor the intent behind your donation by ensuring that your generosity leads to dignity, not distortion.

No dumping. No market disruption. No dependency.
Even well-intentioned donations can cause harm without careful thought. It’s a lesson the global aid sector has learned the hard way — donated clothing flooding informal markets, irrelevant goods piling up in warehouses, and aid shipments overwhelming already fragile systems.

World Vision avoids these pitfalls by putting community needs first. We don’t push product into programs. We pull only what is requested, based on:

  • Local market assessments
  • Ongoing partner feedback
  • Cultural, seasonal, and contextual fit

That’s why we don’t just send what we receive. We receive what we know we can distribute responsibly.

Donations as a strategic asset
Your surplus products aren’t waste. They’re assets with purpose — if handled correctly. With World Vision, your product is handled with the same level of care, compliance, and communication you expect in your own supply chain. The reality is, when goods are handled irresponsibly, risks do exist — from reputational fallout and legal exposure to unintended harm in vulnerable communities. We mitigate those risks with:

  • Pre-vetted distribution partners
  • Usage reports and delivery evidence
  • Brand protection as if your name were our own

With over 75 years of humanitarian experience and a presence in nearly 100 countries, World Vision has a proven infrastructure to move products quickly, safely, and strategically.

When you donate through World Vision, you’re investing in the dignity, recovery, and resilience of vulnerable communities — without compromising your operational integrity or brand reputation. It’s impact you can trust with safeguards you can count on.

World Vision’s health and nutrition work around the world focuses on providing access to quality healthcare in the most impoverished communities. Delivering innovative, effective, and community-driven health programs is one of our core competencies.

Our work in the health sector is strengthened by our holistic community development model, which tackles the root causes of poverty by addressing its multiple causes — lack of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene; food and agriculture; education and literacy; health and nutrition; and economic development — in partnership with the communities in which we work.

Donated medical products are a vital part of World Vision’s health strategy. World Vision’s best-in-class supply chain capabilities enable us to take Cardinal Health product “the last mile” and deliver these desperately-needed items into the hands of health workers in the most remote regions on earth.

Health clinics and rural health posts may have little to no access to running water, electricity, or paved roads — but because of donors who care, they have access to quality medical products, ensuring that they can provide for their communities.

Alongside World Vision and other donor companies, Cardinal Health is improving health and changing the lives of children and families in these “last mile” communities.

Whenever possible, donations are integrated into existing health services, avoiding duplication and inefficiencies and improving local capacity, impact, and sustainability.

In more developed settings, World Vision provides appropriate Cardinal Health products that are used in district hospitals and larger referral hospitals. This makes it possible for the hospitals to continue serving a large volume of patients with limited resources from local governments or other national sources.

In many instances, donations from Cardinal Health have enabled hospitals to stay open when they otherwise would have closed their doors.

Cardinal Health product donations play a critical role in achieving World Vision’s goal of helping all children enjoy good health.

World Vision addresses community health in an integrated manner, using components of our holistic model as sustainable preventative strategies together with treatment for ill health.

By coming alongside World Vision to address the health needs in communities, Cardinal Health plays an integral role in sustainable development, giving children and families the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Do you have top-quality product that can help change the lives of children in need? Consider partnering with World Vision!

Thirty-One Gives and World Vision have a shared common goal of empowering girls, women, and families. “We have partnered in many ways,” says Cindy, “including building Hope Kits for women and families impacted by domestic violence or natural disasters; and by donating a variety of products such as towels, totes, and thermal sets that assist new moms, carry crucial medical supplies, and transport books to help keep children in school.”

Working with World Vision, Thirty-One Gives has helped children reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice in a wide variety of ways:

  • Thirty-One Gives has partnered with World Vision on Giving Tuesday for the past six years to spread generosity during the holiday season.

Celebrate World Vision’s 5,000th international container

You are making a difference in the lives of children through your support. Many of our partners contribute through product donations, known as Gifts-In-Kind. These generous donations are shipped in containers to help children in communities around the world.

On July 18, 2019, a special container left our distribution center in Pittsburgh—filled with donations from A.C. Moore, Abercrombie & Fitch Co., QVC, Essendant, and Thirty-One Gifts—on its way to Zambia. What’s special about this shipment is that it is the 5,000th international container from World Vision, bringing critical aid to children and families who need it the most.

Since 1983, partners like you have helped ship nearly $4 billion in product both internationally and domestically to children and families in need! We’re grateful for your partnership and support to make this possible.

Each of the product donations provided by our corporate partners fills a programmatic need in the communities where we work. For corporations, these donations provide a responsible business solution for excess inventory by freeing up valuable warehouse space and are a tangible way for them to demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility.

Thank you for your partnership that is helping to change lives.

A.C. Moore brings warmth and comfort to children in need.

National arts and crafts retailer A.C. Moore has partnered with World Vision to continue its mission to “Craft a Better World.”

“We were first introduced to World Vision through one of our vendors, Premier Yarns,” says Elena Piperno, A.C. Moore’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager. “Premier was producing a specialty line of yarn to benefit World Vision’s Knit for Kids program.”

A.C. Moore decided to join Premier by not only selling this line of yarn, but by turning all 145 A.C. Moore stores into drop-off locations for knitted and crocheted goods. To date, A.C. Moore has collected more than 180,000 handmade items for Knit for Kids. These handmade items are then distributed to children in communities where World Vision works.

“We have found that our customers—particularly our yarn customers—are incredibly generous and eager to contribute to worthy organizations,” says Piperno. “They are thrilled to have a convenient drop-off location that saves them shipping costs and provides a vehicle to give back to the community.”

The company’s desire to partner with World Vision grew from its own commitment to philanthropy, community outreach, and civic responsibility. They also chose to support World Vision’s Knit for Kids program because it resonated with the passions of its core customers.

“Partnering with World Vision has allowed A.C. Moore to connect with our customers in a new and philanthropic way,” says Piperno. “We have trust in World Vision’s programs and that the donated goods are getting to where they are most needed.”

The organization appreciates how easy it has been to partner with World Vision to accomplish their philanthropic objectives. “The staff is super responsive, collaborative, and helpful,” says Piperno. “They work with us to pick up the handmade goods every other month, ensuring our customers’ donations are getting to those in need in a timely matter.”

“It’s a wonderful organization to work with,” says Piperno, “and A.C. Moore is proud to partner with World Vision.”

SEATTLE, WA — With the start of a new school year right around the corner, Yoobi, a school and office supplies retailer, is helping students get the tools they need to succeed.

Yoobi was built on a “YOU BUY, YOOBI GIVES” promise with a mission to ensure that their school supplies make it to kids that need them most. “For every item we sell, we donate a school supply item to a child in need, right here in the U.S. We believe that school supplies should be available to every child in every classroom, and teachers should not have to spend their hard-earned money to make that happen,” says Justin Wolff, Chief Giving Officer at Yoobi.

Yoobi has provided over 4.2 million kids in the U.S. with free sets of school supplies. That equates to more than 2,500 kids being supplied every single day.

For over five years, Yoobi has worked closely with World Vision through the Kids In Need Foundation (KINF) to ensure that their donated school supplies reached kids and schools that demonstrated the highest need in the United States. World Vision’s relational network of local schools around the country enables the distribution of essential learning supplies across multiple states and dozens of cities to elementary schools where at least 70% of the students qualify for free and reduced-price meals.

“World Vision works where help is needed most. They have developed local relationships that over time, have built incredible trust within communities,” says Wolff.

During this high-need time for back-to-school essentials, Amazon shoppers can purchase Yoobi school supplies on World Vision’s Amazon Charity List, which will all be donated to schools and students in need around the U.S.

To select World Vision as your Amazon Charity List and donate Yoobi school supplies Click Here.

In addition, when customers use their AmazonSmile account, 0.5% of the purchase price will be donated to World Vision, and this includes all Charity List purchases. Each donation through AmazonSmile helps children and families in need. To learn more and sign-up Click Here.

On Thursday, July 18, 2019, World Vision will ship its 5,000th container of donated product to provide critical aid to children and families in need. This is a milestone in humanitarian relief efforts.

The container was loaded with a variety of goods including bicycles from Huffy Corporation and Free Bikes 4 Kidz, blankets from A.C. Moore, clothing from Abercrombie & Fitch Co., baby accessories from 7AM Enfant, towels from Thirty-One Gifts, school supplies from Essendant, mattress pads and dolls from QVC, and much more.

These donations are important not only for those in need, but also for businesses; children and their families receive vital supplies that help lift them out of poverty, and businesses have an environmentally and socially responsible way to give-back with items that would otherwise go to waste.

World Vision will produce a video following the product from the Pittsburgh warehouse to its delivery site in Zambia. Progress of the shipment can be tracked live via a tracker donated by satellite communication service provider ORBCOMM.

Track the container!

The container is set to arrive in Zambia late September.

Since 1983, World Vision has shipped nearly $4 billion in critical donated product to children and families around the world.

If the 5,000 containers were to be stacked and placed end to end, they’d stretch more than 38 miles long and 11 miles high. The 5,000 containers also represent approximately 35,000 tons of potential waste saved from landfills.

Spin’s Commitment to Making a Positive Difference

In many countries, young girls and boys have to walk for hours to reach the nearest school. Unfortunately, the children often drop out as parents feel their time would be better spent working and supplementing the family’s income. Spin, which operates a dockless scooter-sharing service throughout the Unites States, is seeking to change all that with their generous gift-in-kind donation of bikes.

Originally, Spin launched its stationless mobility program in Seattle with dockless bicycle sharing. However, they soon shifted their focus to scooter-sharing. With a fleet of bicycles about to be retired, they soon saw the benefits of partnering with World Vision to make an impact around the world.

“At Spin, we are always grateful for opportunities to collaborate with great partners,” says Euwyn Poon, President and Co-founder of Spin. “We are committed to making a positive difference in cities in the U.S. and around the world. We believe the freedom to move creates new opportunities.”

For vulnerable children living in remote villages, a bicycle can definitely create new opportunities and change their future. A much quicker mode of transportation, bicycles enable children to spend far less time traveling to and from school—and ensure they get home in time to help their families with work.

“As a company, we are making an impact in America by creating another viable mode of transportation and a solution for first-and-last mile trips,” states Poon. “And now, partnering with World Vision enables us to make a difference on an international scale by sending bikes to underprivileged kids overseas.”

Gift-in-kind donations can alter the course of a child’s life and provide the opportunity for a brighter future. And the process is quite simple. “The World Vision staff have been incredibly helpful, understanding, and efficient,” notes Poon. “They are a great partner and made the donation process seamless. They coordinated all the pickups and shipments of the bicycles and made it really easy for us to be part of the work that they do.”

The end result has far exceeded Spin’s expectations. “Together, we were able to provide 64 pallets of bikes across the U.S. and around the world—and a steady means of transportation to communities in need. This is the only time we’ve partnered with World Vision, but we hope to have more opportunities to collaborate in the future.”

7AM Enfant donates its products to warm the hearts of families

NEW YORK, NY — Children and families are at the heart of World Vision’s work in Zambia and Afghanistan. In these countries, many people struggle to survive under harsh conditions—and it’s even more difficult if you are a woman or a child. Thankfully, organizations throughout the United States have stepped up to help—including 7AM.

7AM offers a variety of stylish baby accessories that combine clever designs, quality materials, and fashion-forward fabrics. As an organization, they believe “every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment where they are celebrated, supported, and loved. “To fulfill that vision, 7AM gives back to a variety of charities with similar values—which is why World Vision was the perfect organization to partner with.

“We love the idea of being able to donate to countries we know need the help, even if we have never set foot in that country ourselves.”

—Chana Campora, Director of Sustainability

“We love the idea of donating large quantities of items to countries in need,” states Chana Campora, Director of Sustainability of 7AM. “We have done a lot of donation work in the United States and believed World Vision to be the perfect organization to carry our name and distribute our goods abroad to the most vulnerable.”

Since 7AM began partnering with World Vision in August 2018, they’ve taken great pride in helping to better the everyday lives of families around the world. “Our first donation included over 1,000 diaper bags sent to Zambia and Afghanistan,” recalls Campora. “And since the process was very simple, we decided to do another donation of over 3,800 hats, mittens, and boots, as well as over 200 baby footmuffs to keep children warm.”

The impact of donations cannot be overstated—they transform the lives of children and families who face great adversity. “We love how much of a network World Vision has with so many countries across the world,” says Campora. “We love the idea of being able to donate to countries we know need the help even if we have never set foot in that country ourselves.”
